"Valerius" An Ancient Roman name that means "strong."
This pedestals unique design has a very light, airy look to it. Yet it is very strong and sturdy.
It has it's roots in the old craftsman technique of doweling. Dowels are not only used for joinery on the mating pieces
but they are also used as decorative accents on all four sides and to support the top. The top is "Butcher Block" style
and is made up of 17- 3/4" thick pieces of solid hardwood in our standard offering. The intricacy of the design requires
exact alignment of 48 dowel holes. We were a little sceptacle that it could be done to our standards, so as not to waste
valuable hardwood, Select Yellow Pine was used to build the first prototype. The unit turned beautifully and is now a
standard product offering in various hardwoods. Though made of a much softer wood the prototype is gorgeous and yet available.
If someone took care not to bump it around (soft wood dents easily) it represent an exceptional value. It is built to our exacting
standards and does have a full 7 coat hand rubbed crystal clear finish.
A little more on Valerius. At Fine Art Pedestals our progessive sanding process utilizes 3 different grits of sandpapers, 100, 150 and 220 before we
even begin to apply 7 layers of a crystal clear polycrylic top coat. Each layer of top coat must cure for 24 hours before it can be
hand sanded to level and prepare the surface for subsequent layers. The final coat is hand rubbed, waxed and buffed to a luxurious satiny gloss.

Valerius has been tested to support up to 100lbs! We are confident it will easily support much more, we just have not had need to verify it yet.
If your piece weighs more than 100 lbs and you would like to display it on a Valerius. Just let us know and we will happily test it to 50% more than your
pedestals weight and confirm it with you before we begin to make yours.
